944 Tea Room Drama, oil on canvas, 36x48

Sold-Saskatchewan
Here's one of the five paintings I'm putting in the Victoria Sketch Club Show. I started painting it when I was artist in Residence at the Empress Hotel. I painted the tea room a few times and they turned out fine. However, I really wished I could stage the scene with models. However, that would have cost more than was in my budget, and it would have been quite a challenge to find the right models and dress them up for afternoon tea. So instead I found models in works done my the French Impressionists and staged them in my work. I quite like the drama.
I still have time to make changes on it. So please I am open to comments.

Hey, If you're in town next week please come to the show. I will be there Opening night and will be volunteering throughout the show.  Here's the info:

925 Beach Kid, miniature, 2.5x3.5, oil on board

A quick sketch of a kid I saw on the beach near Ogden Point. I think it was a little boy but could have been a girl. I am working on a series of miniature paintings using minimal strokes. I'm starting with little beach scenes.

I'm also beginning work on the paintings I will be exhibiting at the Victoria Sketch Club's 107th Annual Show. (Wed March 16th to Sunday March 20th) Please come to Opening Night Tuesday March 15th 7 to 9 pm. Glenlyon Norfolk School 1701 Beach Drive in Oak Bay. Please consider yourself invited. Bring your friends.

663 Empress Front Entrance, Summer Day

What a fine day! Here's a front entrance of the Empress scene. The building was actually darker than I painted it being completely in the shade. But I wanted to give the scene a happier feeling so I kicked painted it brighter.

644 Afternoon Tea at the Empress

sold
I'm pleased with the results. Adding the harbour scene beyond the windows gave this painting more interest and depth. And bringing the fabric pattern to the left side of the painting helped to unify the composition and define the figures on the left. I like it and I can hardly wait for it to dry to varnish it. Sorry about the glare.
