731 Sunflowers Knife Painting

sold

I just love sunflowers! I decided to do knife painting today partly because I loathe brush cleaning but mostly because I love the thick buttery impasto texture you get with this technique.

730 Tangled Forest, Gorge Park

It was a lovely, not very cold, rainy morning yesterday. I found this enchanted tangle of branches under some rhododendrons that I just couldn't resist.

729 Thunderbird Totem Poles

I've wanted to paint the Totem Poles in Thunderbird Park for some time. It began raining and since I was using oils they were mixing  Slippery as water and oil don't mix. I started this sienna underpainting and laid opaque color on top.

728 Beacon Hill Park Rhododendrons

I painted these in the same spot where I painted my favorite painting a few years ago. Only then it was a larger square format.
Just when I finished with this little painting I got a call to make History! I had been on he wait list to help hang the new IMAX screen. It took 64 people working together to unroll and hoist these massive sheet of silver coated vinyl. It's 6 stories high. It was a  lot of fun. And now I have bragging rights eh.

725 Dandelions

I picked these from the sidewalk this morning. I have always loved dandelions. They are so pretty and hardy. And one of the first flowers to make their appearance after the long Canadian winter.
