953 Sidewalk Beauties, 11x14, oil on board

Sold-Texas
I started this painting last autumn. The flowers are from a construction site that used to be a community garden (where I had done many of my flower paintings). After the painting had dried over the year I gave the background grey another lighter coat of paint and sharpened the edges of the rose hips and increased their intensity with can red and yellow to bring them forward. The flowers in the arrangement are purple rose mallow, calendula, camomile, snow berries, brown eyed Susan, speedwell, and rose hips.

728 Beacon Hill Park Rhododendrons

I painted these in the same spot where I painted my favorite painting a few years ago. Only then it was a larger square format.
Just when I finished with this little painting I got a call to make History! I had been on he wait list to help hang the new IMAX screen. It took 64 people working together to unroll and hoist these massive sheet of silver coated vinyl. It's 6 stories high. It was a  lot of fun. And now I have bragging rights eh.

673 Yellow Roses in a Jar

$550
I picked up these yellow roses from Thrifty's this morning.  They are more leaves than flowers but I like the way the leaves look through the jar.
Flowers each have a meaning. Yellow roses signify joy.  Makes sense somehow.

562 Matin d'Hiver Montreal

Sold
Here's a cold winter morning in Montreal. Parking is a nightmare in winter. People get desperate. That's not my car parked in front of the hydrant.
I love the warm shadows and cool skies.

547 Goldstream Park, Forest Scene

sold
Inspired by yesterday's paint out in Goldstream. Tom Thompson's spirit was in those woods. It was cold and raining but I was so inspired I stayed all day. Came home soaking wet but kept painting. Today it is pouring and cold. Colours are singing brightly against the cool tray sky.  I LOVE autumn!

539 Harvest

I did this plein air painting yesterday at Michell's farm. They are harvesting halloween pumpkins. I'm told that farmer Michell doesn't make any profit on the pumpkins but grows them every year just to watch the children's faces as they select their  pumpkin.

Most people don't eat halloween pumpkins. I'm one of the exceptions. I still have frozen pumpkin in my freezer from last year. I add it to soups, curries, pancakes and puddings. I have happy childhood memories of watching my wonderful grandmother (cook extraordinaire) make pies from our jack-o-lanturns  after halloween. Every time I use my pumpkin these wonderful memories come back to me.

456 Yellow Pepper

bid
Pardon the glare. Assorted bell peppers were on sale by the bag at the local grocers. I'm quite pleased with this pepper considering the simplicity of the painting. Maybe I'll try painting it again standing up. (I mean the pepper)

450 Scrabble

Every Tuesday is Scrabble Night at a local Coffee Shop. This is a study I did on site. It looks like a serious game of Scrabble.

442 Esquimalt Lagooon, Knife Painting

sold (Vancouver)
This is a knife painting I did at the Esquimalt Lagoon this winter. I really like the wonderful textures you get with a knife painting. Takes for ever to dry though.
