740 Windy Day at Tower Point

sold-Kitchener ON
I painted today at Tower Point in Metchosin with my painting friends. It was sooooo windy! There were a bunch of kids on an outing gathering sea life. Here's a little grouping of them. Can you just feel the wind?

As the children were not sitting still for me I did a few gesture sketches quickly and recomposed them for my painting. Here's a page from my sketchbook in case you're interested. Preparatory sketch for this painting.

698 Sun Flowers in a Jar

These are the same sunflowers from last week. I started this painting Sunday night and left everything set up and took a couple of days away from the studio at the Empress. Today I went in and started working on it again.  I had to lower the water line in the jar as it had evaporated (or the flowers drank it) over the two days. I decided to leave out the dark shadows from the flowers were casting on the blue cloth as I found it make the composition too cluttered.
Available $350 plus $20 s/h

673 Yellow Roses in a Jar

$550
I picked up these yellow roses from Thrifty's this morning.  They are more leaves than flowers but I like the way the leaves look through the jar.
Flowers each have a meaning. Yellow roses signify joy.  Makes sense somehow.

663 Empress Front Entrance, Summer Day

What a fine day! Here's a front entrance of the Empress scene. The building was actually darker than I painted it being completely in the shade. But I wanted to give the scene a happier feeling so I kicked painted it brighter.

662 Bengal Lounge

Well here it is. I might tweek it a bit before the final  varnish but I'm quite pleased with it to go on with. I really like that cougar. I feel he is ready to pounce.

662 Bengal Lounge (In Progress)

Here I'm adding colour and some detail to yesterday's underpainting. Argh! I really have little patience for all those architectural straight lines and perspective. Just the same I'm quite pleased with  the feeling of depth. I like the planters but still want to get the carpet pattern believable.

660 Gold Stream Autumn Spirit

SOLD
I painted this scene in a small plein air format last fall. I used that painting as a reference for this larger version. I still want to "Tweek" it a bit but I'm pleased with it overall.

646 First Performance

Here's the same painting with a different background. Actually this is the original background. I wanted something more illuminated but nothing worked as well as the dark curtains.

644 Afternoon Tea at the Empress

sold
I'm pleased with the results. Adding the harbour scene beyond the windows gave this painting more interest and depth. And bringing the fabric pattern to the left side of the painting helped to unify the composition and define the figures on the left. I like it and I can hardly wait for it to dry to varnish it. Sorry about the glare.
