481 Rodo Garden

$100 Buy
I spent the afternoon at Glendale Gardens. The Rodo Garden is bursting with colour and fragrance.
The hummingbirds and bees were feasting. They seem so happy!

436 How We Met

sold
So this is the third jar in as many days. Each time I think the rendering of the jar has improved. I wondered about the stems...if I ought to have made them tilted towards each other like footsies.
Well, that's another scenario yet to be painted.

435 White Carnation

sold
Painting White is always a special challenge for my eyes. I think it's about temperature. I painted this last night and redid the blossom part today as it didn't read quite right. I think it reads well now. Perhaps more as a monochromatic painting as I used a blue grey cloth for the background.

This is the second of a series of three paintings entitled,  "How We Met".

 You'll see tomorrow:)

PS. I'm using "Improved Gem, made in Canada" type of preserving jar for the painting. Hense the lettering on the jar.

390 Still Life With Iris

bid here
I copied this from a large water-colour I painted many years ago. That water-colour is now nowhere to be found but I do have the image from my website.  I did it in very dilute oils on a 6x6 ground. I added the white background afterwards. I might experiment with this image, approaching it in different ways. I'd like to get the loose water-colour effect with oils.

More California Poppies, 6x6 oil on canvas board

I went down to the waterfront intending to paint the wild sweet peas but couldn't resist these poppies. It was a sunny day and they were open against the blue rock wall. It was such a lovely day. Even the poppies seemed happy.

California Poppies, oil on canvas panel, 6x6in

sold
This is a Daily Paintworks Challenge. I went out to the seawall and painted this little plein air in one hour using only ultramarine blue, cad yellow, and cad red. plus white (only with the blue and purple). It was a lot of fun to paint and I like the results.

Brown Eyed Susans, oil on board, 6x6

buy
There was just too much to choose from today at Glendale Gardens. Plus it was a scorching day. I finally found a bit of shade in front of a pot of these brown eyed susans.  The photo doesn't do the painting justice.

Sunflowers and Apples, oil on wood, 12 x 14

I did this today in my friend Bonny's garden. I find it a bit too messy and might adjust the lights and darks when it's dry enough. Looks best from a distance. :)

Lavender Farm Paint Out, acrylic 16x20

I painted with the Alfrescoes today at the Saltspring Lavender Farm in Sidney. It was the nicest and most fragrant place in the world.
