This is the Soldier Statue in front of the Parliament Building. 

401 Blue Bridge November

This is Victoria's Blue Bridge. It is rather rusty as we are no longer maintaining it (the city plans to replace it soon). So I'm painting it to remember it.
Coincidentally, today I met a lady who called it "Johnny's Bridge", because her uncle John used to raise and lower it years ago.

I wonder if the new bridge will be as paintable.

385 Mr Moustache

(Pardon the glare). This handsome man is a Comissionaire on the Inner Harbour. I painted this from a photograph I took this summer.
I don't usually paint from photographs, but this was irresistible. That is one gorgeous moustache.

I really wanted to simplify the painting so I made the background simple.

I really like this painting.  I think it really captured his likeness and even the personality of this gentleman.

I've been wanting to make a stash of photographs of interesting faces. So lately I've been asking folks if I could photograph them for use in a future painting. I try to get them to make a funny face or interesting expression.
So far people have obliged me. :)

This morning I went painting with friends in Beacon Hill Park. Despite the rain we had a good turn out. Here's a trio who gathered under the gazebo.

Here's two more of those cute little felt animals. Their ears really do stick up like that. I think they look like they're defending their territory from the acorn.

These are the little felt dogs I used. The acorn is really a small one, so you don't really get the scale of the dogs from the photo.

Here's the sketch I did on a yellow ground. (I decided to shorten the blue dog's tail as the shorter tail made him seem more alert.

I spent the afternoon in Beaconhill Park enjoying the lovely day. I did this little sketch in my little sketch book.

Poppies and Peonies, oil on canvas, 8x10

I spent most of the day painting this little oil at Beacon Hill Park. It is so impasto that I think it'll take a couple of weeks to touch dry.

Woman in a Teal Dress, oil on panel, 6x6in

I did this little figure study today at Goward house. I premixed the flesh tones ahead of time. I found this worked well as I wanted to finish the painting in one sitting. I used a limited pallet to do my mixtures and brought along a few extra colors such as magenta just in case. I think there is pretty good color harmony. And I like the overall composition. Though her proportions could be adjusted.
