Sunflower, watercolor/300lb arches, 11x15

I still have those green grocer sunflowers. I have gotten 4 paintings out of them so far. I did this without a pencil drawing. I like the freshness of it. Very limited pallet of green yellow and blue.

Driftwood, acrylic on canvas 8x10

This morning at Holland Point. I used only cad yellow, quin magenta, cerulean blue and white. Not as much dark and light contrast.....cerulean blue is too light to get those darks.

Brown Eyed Susans, oil on canvas, 8x10

Here's this morning's effort from the community garden. While the summer flowers have wound down the grand finale is spectacular with the biggest and showiest sunflowers, colorful dahlias and brown eyed Susans.

Sunflowers, acrylic on canvas, 24X30

I got another painting out of those lovely sunflowers from the green grocers. I like the movement in these guys. They make me think of a rowdy bunch of little boys...some showoffs and some shy.

Sunflowers, acrylic on canvas 8x10

I stayed home and painted these this morning. So far I got two paintings out of these lovely sunflowers and I will try to get one more out of them before I discard them as they are wilting sadly.

Tiger Me

I went to the luminara festival tonight. They had lanterns, performers, moon cakes, and face painting.

Gathering Kelp, acrylic on canvas, 8x10

First day of autumn! I was inspired by these ladies gathering Kelp at Holland Point.
I like the composition and the narative aspect of the painting. A little too gray for my taste but I like it!

Sunflowers, acrylic on canvas, 16x20

Todays effort at the IMAX paint-in. I wanted to paint something   Van Gogh. I bought these gorgeous flowers from the local green grocer. They are from a local farm. I used complimentary colors and feel this gives the flowers a dancing effect.

Bastion Square after Van Gogh

Here is yesterday's effort from the paint-in at the IMAX Van Gogh opening. I captured this scene a few months ago while walking down Government street past Bation Square. At the time I thought "wow this is so Van Gogh". Well, here is is.

Little Boats, acrylic on canvas 8x10

These are what caught my eye this morning at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club paint-out. These little boats were covered at least partially with tarps which was a splash ofyellow and blue amongst the gray day.

IMAX Paint-In

Here's a couple of photos of the IMAX Victoria paint-in for the opening of the Vincent Van Gogh film.

My good friend and artist Holly Wheaton agreed to model for the occasion.

Portrait Painting

Today I went to portrait painting at Gramwell House but the model didn't show so I was the model. Here's the assortment of different styles and perspectives the group turned out.
As payment for the modeling I got to keep one of the portraits. I chose Ann Wheatcroft's colorful rendering.

September Poppies, acrylic on cradeled panel, 6x6

This is this morning's effort. It is a darling little bundle of cheer. (But maybe I'm too close to the subject to judge fairly).
I'm still recovering from the Koi Joy marathon.  ZZzzzzz

I fell out of my routine for a few days but this morning marks a new start in my daily paintings.

Me in my studio

This is me in my studio the other nigh working on the Koi Joy. It was midnight and I had been painting since 5ish. Already there was  Ivory black splattered on my face. I painted on till 6am....napped till 9...and painted again till 2pm then drove the painting out to Sydney.

Wheel Barrows

It was gray and threatening rain. I was attracted to the explosion of color these wheelbarrows made.

Judy

I went to a portrait painting paint along today. This is the model Judy. I got there later than everyone else and got this last spot. I don't like a straight on side or front. Nest time I'll do better. Promise.

Ross Bay

This morning with the Alfrescoes I painted a dappled shade area on the edge of Ross Bay Cemetery. I had the hardest time picking a spot as I didn't want any headstones in my painting. In the end I just omitted them from the scene all together. So there's some degree of improv here. I have a licence to do so.

first draft

Here's the start. There's still work to do. This is a studio painting based on sketches and photos of Beacon Hill Park sun flowers. It is all too dark for my liking. I like the general composition and the feeling of movement. But There are still changes I will make to that. I'm considering lightening the back ground.....Hmmm.
