Poppy Evening, acrylic, 8x10

I did this tonight in the community garden. It was quite late and the street lights were on when I finally left the garden. I painted this on a dark umber ground. There are beans growing behind the poppies. The mix of flowers and veggies in the same bed is part of the charm of this garden. Hmm maybe tomorrow I'll paint flowers with raspberries in the background. The strawberries are ripe now too.

Normally I don't touch up plein air paintings in the studio. But the back ground had some distracting shapes. So I blended them in and also perked up the foreground highlights. I like it more this way.
