These two characters are the newest characters in my studio. They quickly became best friends:)

I was experimenting with the orange blue complimentary combination. Tough I wonder if the background colour isn't too saturated.

461 This Little Piggy

This little Delft piggy has been in a local thrift store for weeks. Finally I decided to give it a home. I'm glad I did. Isn't it cute.

The apple? Someone from the Sketch Club left it behind yesterday and, superstition got the best of me. I thought "It's a sign; I must be meant to paint it".  Hmmmn.

460 "Jump"

I had a hard time deciding on a title for this little painting. "Don't", or "Do It" or "Step Off", were other possibilities.

I really enjoy painting lemons and glass. The glass, because it forces me to really try to see what I see and not what I think I see. The lemons because they are so lemony. 

459 Breakfast

I did this painting at Carol Marine's workshop on Whidbey Island.
It was the best workshop I've ever taken. It was great to watch Carol paint in real life. She's a master oil painter.

455 Eggs and Shakers

Breakfast. I thought the shakers seemed like they were looking at the eggs. 

441 Monkey Loves China Doll

I bought this china doll from a consignment store recently. She is part of a pair of salt and pepper shakers. This is her second time modelling for me.This is her sophisticated look. Poor lovesick monkey.

439 Lemon Twist

What do you think of the patterned fabric surrounding the jar? Is it too busy? I think it looks like the lemons are dancing the twist.

438 The Trick

What do you do when you have a lemon a mug and a cherry? There's another lemon inside the mug, but it doesn't show. I used a bandana as the backdrop. I find the pattern makes the painting more dynamic and the cherry stem looks like it's trying to balance and adds more movement to the painting. 

431 May I cut In?

I had a hard time with the pthalo blue. It's a beautiful colour. But it just gets everywhere.
How about the title. It looked to me like either the mug and apple were fighting or kissing....hmmmn Or Dancing?

I really liked the way glass distorts images. These are those mini honey mandarins. You can fit a bunch in a tea cup.

384 Ten Minute Challenge

Here's a challenge I did today. The challenge is to set up a simple still life and paint it for ten minutes (Timed and no cheating). After ten minutes rotate the item and paint it again. It's an exercise to make you learn to make quick decisions about value and quick decisive brush work.

I enjoyed it.
